TEFL – Teaching English as a Foreign Language TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages The schools within TeachingChile’s network are increasingly asking for participants that have TEFL or TESOL certification. While some exceptions exist (e.g., Masters in Education, Masters in Linguistics, one-year experience teaching ESL in a foreign country, credentialed teacher of English), TeachingChile highly recommends you obtain TEFL/TESOL certification prior to arrival. Yes. As a “no risk” option for you, in the TeachingChile application form fill in the area that asks for “other certifications” with the statement such as “will complete TEFL certification prior to arrival”. If you are accepted, you will then need to complete a TEFL course prior to your arrival to Chile. There are a number of TEFL/TESOL programs available, both in-class courses (typically somewhat expensive and time consuming) and online courses (typically very affordable and can be taken at the participants leisure online). Participants may choose whatever course they wish, but schools in our network will accept as a minimum a 40-hour online course. While there are many options available from which you can choose, TeachingChile has arranged with one company to offer our TeachingChile participants a 25% discount. As one of your options you can research the offer from i-to-i.com and see if one of the online programs they offer is acceptable to you. If acceptable, contact us at info@teachingchile.com for the promotional code to save you 25%. |
